On My Mind –  Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor,  Ranbir Kapoor  & Katrina Kaif

My all time favorite Bollywood couple is Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan.  I don’t just love them because they are stellar in the looks department.  I love them because they have great chemistry and represent a great couple.  I was hooked on their love story after I watched the 2009 movie ‘Kurbaan’.  The gorgeous couple had a love-making scene that really spoke volumes to the audience.  One could tell that they were connected emotionally, physically and spiritually.  They gave a stellar performance and it was really worth the watch.  If anyone has had any personal dealings with Saif and Kareena, one might be aware of the fact that they are extremely private and guarded with their lives.  Saif is very protective and loving towards Kareena and Kareena loves Saif very much.

Karan Johar’s Koffee with Karan is a talk show designed to get Bollywood stars talking.  Check out earlier clips of Saif and Kareena on the show and see how deep their intimacy really is.

Hollywood & Bollywood: Scandals and Privacy

Karan Johar, an experienced talk show host and producer has been known to get Bollywood stars to open up about their personal lives.  In a recent episode of Koffee with Karan, Ranbir Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor were guests on the show.  It came as no surprise to me when Ranbir Kapoor revealed that Kareena  hasn’t been friendly with a colleague of hers…Kareena only likes people that are ten years her senior or who are just born.  Kareena’s response you ask…well,  I will tell you…”I am not here to make friends; I am here to work; I already have a lot of friends why would I want more?”

So what do you think?  Did Ranbir reveal too much information about his all famous cousin-sister?  Do you think his big cousin-sister Kareena will have a private fit over the big reveal?  Also, do you think women who are competing with one another in an industry as cutthroat as Bollywood or Hollywood can be friendly and supportive of one another or do you think cattiness and put downs are a part of the business?  In the clip above, a Bollywood actress said that Kareena can’t be friends with someone who threatens her.  What do you think about a statement like that?

Having been an avid follower of Hollywood my entire life and seeing paparazzi take invasive photos of my favorite celebrities, to me Bollywood is very tame in comparison.  There is more privacy; the focus is more on the work and less on scandals and private lives. When Katrina Kaif was photographed in Ibiza, Spain over the summer in a bikini, I was surprised by the amount of media attention that it got.  I was even more surprised  that the media reported that Rishi Kapoor was upset with Katrina.

After the incident, Katrina swore off wearing a bikini in future films.  Isn’t desi wear very flamboyant and vibrant?  Why is a bikini considered taboo in some parts of India and accepted in other parts of India?  So many questions, yet so few answers.  I couldn’t quite grasp the fact that Katrina had to defend her choice in clothing.   There appears to be different rules everywhere in India.  It is my opinion that women should be made to feel proud of their bodies and their choice in clothing.  Women in their 20’s, 30’s and beyond should be trusted.  Youth is to be enjoyed and cherished.

    Mixed Signals for Single Desis

This brings me to the next part of my blog….

How conservative can one be in the west?  When everyone else is doing their own thing, can you maintain a conservative mindset in your 20’s, 30’s and beyond?  Most of us were born into conservative families because India was engraved in us.  Can we maintain that thought system through life or do we get influenced by the western world?  My other question to you would be,  if you had a potential father-in-law who blamed you for bikini pictures (something you had nothing to do with), would you be respectful and apologize? Or would you speak your mind and tell him that he is disrespecting you and your relationship with his son by not being supportive?

The Kapoors are definitely an interesting Bollywood family; they have a mixture of traditionalism and modern thinking.  By that I mean Rishi Kapoor is very traditional and Neetu Singh is very liberal.  Between the two, Ranbir must get a lot of confusing signals.

Does anyone else get mixed signals from different parenting styles?  If so, how do you handle it?  Is one parent ultra-conservative about who you should date and who you should be friends with and another parent very open about what you can and can’t do?

East versus West…it isn’t easy, but you have to figure it out as life goes on……

    Thoughts to Ponder!

    xoxo

“Also, do you think women who are competing with one another in an industry as cutthroat as Bollywood or Hollywood can be friendly and supportive of one another or do you think cattiness and put-downs are a part of the business? These are some very interesting questions, and personally, I think, whether it is the film industry in US, India, or whatever business, women are either supportive or bitchy toward each other. In fact, more of the latter. Women see women as competition more than as a sister to support. In some ways the fairer sex is more deadly than the male. I think on the whole, women should be more supportive of each other, no matter what the industry. no matter how cut-throat. I don’t know much about Kareena and I don’t know her personally, but it doesn’t harm to be friendly with those you work with – it’s about mutual respect, treating humans like humans. In a world still so overly dominated by men, we owe this change in attitudes to support each other, as women, as sisters.

Brilliant thoughts on Kareena and Saif! They are truly one of the few genuine bollywood couples out there that do seem like they’re deeply connected emotionally and physically.

      Here’s wishing them continued happiness!
