You could get an annual scholarship of $4000 to study in India

Are you Indian American? Want to learn more about your family’s culture? Interested in studying abroad in India and meeting Indian students? Need a scholarship for higher education? If you answered yes to any of these questions, Mother India is thinking of you!  There’s now a Scholarship Program for Diaspora Children and a chance to study at a top university in India.

India hosts a range of highly developed higher education facilities, many of which are not well known to students pursuing undergraduate degrees in the United States. For this reason, the Government of India created the “Scholarship Programme for Diaspora Children” (SPDC) in the 2006-2007 academic year for Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) and Non-Resident Indians (NRIs).

The SPDC aims to assist Indian American students pursue undergraduate courses in Indian Universities/Institutions. The scheme also aims to strengthen ties between Indian Diaspora and Indian culture. SPDC is applicable for undergraduate Programs for Professional and General Courses (except Medical and other related courses) and is available to 150 students. 50 of these seats are reserved for Children of Indian workers (CIWG).

Financial assistance towards tuition fees, admission in select institution and courses, as well as post admission services are provided. Students accepted into the program will receive up to US$4,000 per annum in scholarship.

To learn more about the SPDC and apply, visit: (link to the formal information and application [www.mea.gov.in]). (Information from the Consulate of India in New York)
