    Thanksgiving with Kamala Harris

[dropcap]H[/dropcap]ow wonderful is it to have a female vice president? Just like her male counterparts she is still expected to juggle matters of war and peace, make decisions about terrorism and climate change – but she can also nourish humans, share family and love – and cornbread recipes for Thanksgiving!

It’s a new experience to have a US Vice President elect who can offer statesmanship – with a side of cornbread dressing!

“During difficult times I have always turned to cooking,”  This year, I wanted to share one of my family’s favorite Thanksgiving recipes with you. I hope whenever you’re able to make it in life, it brings you as much warmth as it has brought me—even when separated from those I love.”

So here is her family recipe for cornbread  dressing from her Twitter account. The comments she received are also telling ones about how people are reacting to a vice president who is a woman and thinks nothing of sharing the many things which make us nurturing human beings.

During difficult times I have always turned to cooking. This year, I wanted to share one of my family’s favorite Thanksgiving recipes with you. I hope whenever you’re able to make it in life, it brings you as much warmth as it has brought me—even when separated from those I love. pic.twitter.com/68LUeat4fE

Ingredients: 2 8oz packages of cornbread mix
    1 pound spicy pork sausage
    2 onions, chopped
    2 apples, cored and chopped
    4 celery stalks, diced
    ¾ cup of chicken broth
    ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
    ¼ cup fresh parsley, chopped
    2 tsp sage
    ½ tsp thyme
    ½ tsp rosemary
    salt & pepper pic.twitter.com/ecmeARjxkQ

    — Kamala Harris (@KamalaHarris) November 25, 2020

Directions: Bake your cornbread according to the instructions on the package. This can be done the day before. Once it’s cooled, crumble it. pic.twitter.com/4ILJMsi1q8

Take the sausage out of its casing, crumble it, and brown it in a little oil. When it’s cooked, use a slotted spoon to remove it from the pan and set it aside. pic.twitter.com/XETAqSZVJ4

Sauté the vegetables and apples in the remaining oil in the same pan. pic.twitter.com/fNoQH59Bil

Put the mixture in a baking dish and bake at 375F for about 40 minutes. Enjoy! pic.twitter.com/N7qDPjrjZA

Comments on  this post – the good, the bad, the funny!

      • Call me insane, but I think this is a refreshing diversion from a HUMAN BEING. Politics aside, it’s a welcome change to the never-ending vitriol, and the machine-like prattle from people who just don’t care. Thanks for this. I’ll be ordering the ingredients and give it a go 🙂
      • Are you kidding me!? We get recipes too!? Dear God!!! Imma cry! Thank you Madame Elect Vice President! #nomnom #cook
      • Please ignore all the ugly in the comments. Trying to uplift people during difficult times will always be an American value. We haven’t really had a chance to celebrate your historic election yet due to the nastiest & most divisive period ever but will on 1/20/21!
      • *Who the hell cries just because someone shared her recipe? At this rate I am going to be out of Kleenex before you are sworn in.
    • *I don’t like Indian food! Thx
    • *This seems weird having a VP so down 2 earth she’s sharing her recipes with all of us. Everyone.. I don’t know about you all but this new presidency is just what the world needs. Just picked up all the ingredients 4 this after I got off work. Can’t wait to try this. Thank you 🙂
    • *This is nice of @KamalaHarris  to share, please don’t feel you need to post recipes (unless you really want to). Looking to you for civil rights for all, court reform, climate change. Be the badass that we voted 4. Be kind and   civil, and the get it done woman you are.
    • *Love strong women who R breaking glass ceiling, but still courageous enough to bring their whole selves to the position: as if a women cooking makes her less trustworthy, less serious about her job. Haters: your mom cooked. If a man had shared recipe he’d get awws & oohs.
    • *Can’t wait to serve Madame Vice President’s recipe at our Thanksgiving Table in gratitude for your service to our country, and the impact you will have on all of our lives.
    • *Madam Vice President This brought me to tears The nation has been lost for the last four years You bring strength and nurturing to a very hungry nation.
    • *Reading comprehension is a thing. She said: “whenever you are able to make it in life,” which means she understands the plight many of you are yelling about. Meanwhile, donate to your local food pantry. Be a part of the solution.

So Happy Thanksgiving everyone – we have a lot to be thankful for as this difficult year winds down!
