Now wouldn’t it be nice if great food fell from the skies? Imagine this scenario: you have just returned exhausted from work and the family is baying for their dinner. The door bell rings, and there’s food being delivered to your door! And we don’t mean greasy fast food either. This week it could be shrimp, roasted corn and red pepper, low fat and home-made, or it could be succulent citrus roasted chicken with herb roasted potatoes. If you’re hankering for mom’s home-cooked desi meal, there’s even curry, basmati rice and Indian spinach. All thanks to Doorstop Meals provided by an innovative chef, Rama Ginde whose business WannaBee Chef in Cresskill, NJ, is bringing the spice back into the business of eating and cooking.

Ginde, who’s been dabbling in the kitchen since childhood, graduated from the Culinary Insitute of America and has worked at several high-end restaurants including Jean-Georges and the Hyatt Hotels. Born and raised in Porto Rico, she is well versed in all cuisines and also does a lot of fusion of Indian with Spanish, Chinese and French. Besides gourmet home delivered meals which can be ordered on the website, she also teaches all the wanna be chefs cooking, from date nights for romantic couples who learn Mexican cooking and get to eat it with a live Mariachi band to Mom and Me workshops where mothers get to bond with their kids over the kitchen stove.

Most popular are the children’s cooking classes where they learn sophisticated things like sushi and wontons. Says Ginde, “Kids have really acquired a taste, going out with their parents and watching Food Network – it’s their cartoons now! Food is such a central theme in everyone’s lives – and people are always looking to do something different with their kids – it’s very hands on, we don’t use anything processed or frozen, so the kids are really getting used to fresh ingredients. They are cooking from scratch and get to eat the finished product.”
