     Oscars for the Elephant Whisperers:

The Elephant Whisperers won the Oscar for the best short documentary – Kartiki Gonsalves and Guneet Monga

    Women Power at the Oscars
Our women are winning Oscars! I think earlier Bhanu Athaiya was the only Indian woman to win an Oscar (for costume design for ‘Gandhi) – now we have two women who’ve bagged the Oscar for best short documentary – Kartiki Gonsalves and Guneet Monga as the filmmakers for the wonderful ‘The Elephant Whisperers’ – this is Gonsalves’ directorial debut and the first short doc from India to ever win the Oscar. For her, it’s been a six year labor of love – and intense passion. From debut filmmaker to bagging the Golden Guy with her first film!

As Guneet Monga pointed out: “Don’t wait for anyone. Just get started. There’s nobody here to give you permission. Then you don’t need a seat on the table – create your own table and sit on it!”
