Naatu Naatu wins an Oscar – and a live performance on the Academy stage!

RRR was by far my most favorite movie this year from India – and I think it deserved to win a few more Oscars! I have seen it so many times and I never tire of it.  However it was a thrill to see that ‘Naatu Naatu’ won the Oscar for best original song for M.M. Keeravni and Chandrabose and it was performed live on the stage at the Oscars. It was choreographed by Prem Rakshith. There was another secret Indian factor –  you remember our iconic showman of Indian cinema – Raj Kapoor? Well, there’s a young Indian-American showman who shares the name with him and his company Raj Kapoor Productions helps create the magic on the Oscar stage.

At Oscars, meet the Raj Kapoor of Hollywood

Here Raj Kapoor tells you about Naatu Naatu at the Oscars:

The Naatu Naatu performance was a very personal one for me. A tribute to honor my late father who I lost in July and a celebration of Indian musicals and my birthplace. A very special shout out to the amazing team from RRR with outstanding original choreography by Prem Rakshith. A big congrats to M.M Keeravni & Chandrabose for winning Best Original Song. A collaboration between two countries and a passion to include the creators in the development of the performance. Thank you to the Academy for the backstory of the journey to Oscars stage: https://aframe.oscars.org/news/post/oscar-producer-raj-kapoor-naatu-naatu-interview.
