Poona Diary – Happy Republic Day!
India is bedecked in saffron, green and white for Republic Day. It’s a real experience to see everyone from people to gas pumps to auto rickshaws all dressed up in the colors of India’s national flag. I did my bit by wearing an orange, green and white kurta and a lovely flag pin.

[dropcap]A[/dropcap]t the celebrations at the Wind Chime gated community in Poona, the flag was hoisted, the national anthem was sung and the kids had an art competition. Many mothers and daughters were dressed in the colors of the flag – and even a lovely pair of senior citizens.

[dropcap]W[/dropcap]e all had hot hot chai and snacks and celebrated India’s special day. Even the cleaning ladies of the building complex were radiant in glittering gifted sarees. On the streets vendors were running in traffic with the tri-color painted on their faces, selling flags and balloons – saffron, green and white of course. A special day of pride for every Indian and it’s so special to be in India celebrating it with fellow Indians for the first time in years!
