In my opinion, the phrase ‘Everybody Dies, but not everybody lives’ is an important catch phrase, because it is so true.  When we are young, we have to appease so many people and meet so many different expectations.  We have to please our parents, ourselves, our friends, the world and we are hit with the many road blocks that hinder our dreams and prevent life from working out according to our plans.  We don’t take enough time, to sit back and enjoy the white lilies.

As human beings, we are naturally concerned about our future, we want it to be okay and we want to do everything in our power to make a path that is filled with completion and a life that we know.  As much as we look back at our childhood and adolescent life and resent certain aspects of it, we often want to recreate it, as we don’t know any better.  This isn’t always God’s plan for us.  He is now taking us out of our roots and bringing us into a future that is scary and unpredictable. This is why, it is up to us to decide how we want to live and interpret our adult life and strategize accordingly.

As a single desi, one really great way to establish your independence and live vicariously is to pick some hot destinations and explore.  Check out the bars and clubs, talk to locals, sight-see and get a sense of how everyone else lives in different parts of the world.  As a school psychologist, I am lucky to have spring break, Christmas break and summer vacation.  I use that time to travel and see the world.  Here are tips on  traveling on your own and making the best of your given circumstances.

Single Desi in Los Angeles, California:

I love L.A.  I would move there if my family wasn’t living in Pennsylvania.  I love Hollywood and the Beaches and I love celebrity culture.  My favorite places include Santa Monica Beach, Santa Monica Pier, Venice Beach, Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum, and Hollywood Walk of Fame.  While I was there, I also checked out some clubs:  Teddy’s at the Roosevelt Hotel, Le Deux and Area.  Roosevelt Hotel is especially great if you have a fascination with Marilyn Monroe.  There are pictures of her everywhere.

Did you know that Marilyn Monroe poses on the diving board of the Hotel’s Swimming Pool in her first ever ad for suntan lotion?  Marilyn stayed in suite 229 in the Cabanas which overlooked the pool side.  LA is so chic and fabulous.  I loved every minute that I was there.  I wish I could have stayed longer and I definitely plan on going back.  The only problem I have with LA is that it is too big and spread out.  You have to take the highway everywhere and it can be really backed up on the highway.  I would have loved to check out Malibu Beach and Marina Del Rey. Oh well, next time hopefully.

LA is good to explore with some friends or that special someone, pick some places you would like to visit.  Spend the day at Santa Monica Beach, eat some Pinkberry and walk along the Santa Monica Pier.  Work on your tan on Venice Beach, lie in the ocean’s waves and just breathe a sigh of relief that you are away from the hustle and bustle of your normal routine.  Venice Beach has some awesome Art work.  They sell framed artwork of Old Hollywood Idols (Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, James Dean, Elvis Presley)  and  some very cool Michael Godard Paintings (Michael Godard is a rockstar of the art world-his art displays a lighthearted perspective of life that surrounds us,  mirroring our lives through martinis with animated olives, drunken grapes and dancing strawberries.  He also draws art centering around gambling).

    Enjoy the Sunshine Babes!!

Single Desi in South Beach, Florida

If you are a cool, strong, confident and sexy chick, which I know you are, then South Beach is a cute destination for you.  I have only been there once and I plan on going back during my Spring Break in April.

It doesn’t matter how old you are, there is nothing more liberating than lying in the ocean and being swept away by the waves.  Sure, it would be nice to have your honey there to get caressed, massaged and made love too, however if that isn’t in your plan right now, then that is okay.  You are enough.

Choose a hotel that is close to the Beach and within walking distance to the night clubs and lounges.  Choose wisely when frequenting a night club, order some great drinks and enjoy.  There is no time like the present.    Some clubs you should definitely frequent include:  BED, Blue, Cameo, Mansion, Opium Garden, Dream, Prive, etc, etc…The Art Deco District in South Beach is great as well.  It has great antique shops and art shops that are sure to make you want to decorate your already furnished condominium or house.

South Beach can be enjoyed with your sweetie and/or good friends.  It can also be a great family destination as well.  It’s a nice place to take the kids and relax.  It is a very independent place and you can feel free to move around independently.  There are some great bars as well as some great family restaurants.

    Put your drinks up dolls!!

Single Desi in Las Vegas, Nevada

How many of us have a soft spot for Vegas in our hearts?? Be honest with yourself.  It’s a vacation in a hotel.  You don’t even have to leave the strip to enjoy yourself.  Once you are there, you are walking distance from shopping, casinos, clubs, spa treatments, pools, shows, you name it.  Las Vegas is a great getaway for anyone who just wants to get away for a few days.  There is always a show to catch at night.  The pools and shops are open during the day.  Gambling is right there.  Who can turn down Vegas for a weekend?

Las Vegas is a great place to explore by yourself, with your sweetie/ and or good friends.  It is not hard to find your way around.  The hotels on the strip are all connected to one another and you just walk from place to place and do what you need to do.  It is a great place to host a bachelorette party, get married or attend a celebrity endorsed event.

    Enjoy this moment for  life

Single Desi in Europe, India, Africa, South America, and More…

If you have any plans of visiting other countries and you are not sure how to go about sightseeing, you should definitely look into an organized tour. If you feel confident and independent as a single desi, moving around freely in a foreign land and you would rather take your time and see things at your own pace, then by all means, you should do it.  Grab the people you love and embark on your own free, independent tour.

Be Single – and Live it Up Sweets!

Traveling the world and the seven seas can be very daunting and exhilarating experience, however it opens up your mind to what is out there and how different people live their lives.  Always remember that everybody is looking for something and you are not alone!

    Enjoy your blessings

    xoxo

What a wonderful blog! I love traveling and have been to a few of the destinations you’ve written about. South Beach is one of my favorites. I’ve been there solo 3 times – I was never alone for long! Such a friendly and great place to vacation and unwind! I look forward to more of your posts.
