    Single Desi – Life Happens

It’s the sand in the oyster that creates the pearl

-Hugh Hefner (In ‘Everyone Loves you When You are Dead’- talking about the pain and loneliness of his childhood)

Nearly every day for the past year I have been taking the same road to my parents’ house.  I don’t live that far from their home.  It is very important to me to know exactly where my destination is each day.  I love stability and predictability when it comes to driving.  I don’t like changes or surprises.  I am one of those people that need to take a practice drive to a place I have never been before because I need to know exactly where I am going.

Well, on my way to their house there was a roadblock.  No problem, I would take an alternative way.  Unfortunately due to my lack of experimentation I didn’t know that many alternatives to get to where I needed to get to.  It turns out, I was going to encounter several more roadblocks on my driving journey.

Whenever I am in the car and I feel that I am getting delayed because of traffic and unforeseen circumstances,  a wave of frustration and anxiety sweeps over me.

That is when a lightning bolt idea hit me…that we all try and make our plans and then there is nature.

Plans are very logical, predictable and dependable.  We all love to make plans.  Plans give us the ease and let up on the tension that can consume us.  Once we make plans, we want to follow them and make it to our final destination.

Nature, on the other hand, is environmental.  It is chaotic and unpredictable.  It brings us down and can take us up again.

    Overcoming Obstacles

Plans take place in our heads and our hearts.  Nature is the law of the world outside our brains and doesn’t take our wishful thinking into account.

Lesson Learned:  Don’t get upset or grieve when things don’t go your way, expect nature to take its course.  Always remember that life is what happens when you are busy making other plans.  Obstacles are and always will be a part of your lifelong journey.

Overcoming obstacles is what life is all about.  There will be obstacles that you won’t be able to predict.  Making a wave for the future; clearing the path in front of you; opening up new horizons; moving the seemingly unmovable is what life is all about.  Once you overcome those obstacles, you are able to learn, grow and reach a higher level.

Instead of cribbing and complaining and stating “Why me?” a new attitude can prevail, one which questions “How can I learn and grow from this experience?”

Today, after all that work, I am able to see the sun, breathe the fresh air and move at an even faster rate (and I am just not talking about driving to my parents home).

Without those obstacles, we wouldn’t be the strong independent people we are today!

    xoxo
