[dropcap]I[/dropcap]t seems wholly appropriate that Grammy-nominated artist Chandrika Tandon has released the first track of her new album Shivoham – the Quest, in August, the month of Ganesh Chaturthi, the birth of the beloved God of New Beginnings.

It is called The Song of Beginnings and is a love song, an all-encompassing devotion to the Auspicious One. I look upon it as a special gift to each one of us: listen to it as you wake, as you drive, as you battle life’s ups and downs.  It washes over you, and the many-layered music and Chandrika’s definitive voice transcend to soaring heights, taking you to a place of peace and happiness.

    Jyessttha-Jam Brahmannaam Brahmanas Pata
    Aa Nah Shranvan-Notibhih-Seeda-Saadanam
    Om Shri Mahaa-Ganapataye Namah Om…

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]his is the first offering of the full-length double album: Shivoham—The Quest, and  has steadily climbed up the charts. It is No. 5 on the Radio Indie Alliance.

As Top 40 Charts.com described it, “This is a majestic musical statement of 90 minutes, populated with five choirs, orchestras, multiple world-renowned soloists, and was recorded in nine studios across four countries over two years…Split into three primary movements preceded by an overture, the suite of interconnected songs is based on thousands of years of literary and musical tradition.”

Chandrika Tandon noted: “While the album is expressed in three movements, it is not a linear road. That path is tortuous and follows many landscapes and terrains, and crosses all genres, religions, and races – the music is also reflective of this cross cultural, cross continental journey we all go through, expressed from one person’s prism.”

[dropcap]P[/dropcap]utting the Quest together was itself a quest, with scores of renowned musicians, orchestras and across countries.  The Quest will be released on September 15 and I will be doing a review and interview at that time.

Meanwhile, it is time to celebrate the Pitcher of Prosperity, the Granter of Boons and the Guarantor of Success. He is the Lord of Wisdom, a scribe who broke off his own tusk to use as a pen when transcribing the epic tale of Mahabharata for the sage Vyasa.

Listen to this evocative Song of Beginnings and enjoy being immersed in the transformative joy and wisdom of Ganesha, loved and cherished across the world…it is a prelude to the Quest we all are on.

I still enjoy listening to Chandrika’s previous albums but this one was powerful.
This is the only kind of music that brings solace specially with the turmoil all around us these days.

I am not a Carnatic music fan – I can’t understand it I guess but this is overpowering, beautifully recorded.
