Frida Kahlo: The Life of an Icon, Seen Up-Close

The Day I met Frida Kahlo in Brooklyn

It’s not every day that you get a chance to rub shoulders with your most admired superstar. I did – and so can you.  Everyone seems to have a crush on the iconic artist Frida Kahlo – not only for her work, her life but also her beliefs and the way she lived her life. So when I got a chance to take a selfie with Frida Kahlo, I grabbed the opportunity and enjoyed my fan girl moment.

The event was the Immersive Frida Kahlo Exhibition which is co-created by the Frida Kahlo Corporation and the Spanish digital arts center Layers of Reality. It is traveling to various parts of the US and can be currently seen in Brooklyn, New York. The fiery artist was there with her famous unibrow and particular hairstyle, surrounded by mariachi musicians. Not the real Frida of course, but I requested and took a photo with this performing artist look-alike as did many other visitors to this amazing show.

Through 360 degree projections and virtual reality, through historical photographs, through newly created music and  through her biography, art installations and larger than life images, you are sucked into the passions of her life, swept into the turbulences and shaken by the drama, heartbreak and  sorrows that she endured. Frida Kahlo’s world is truly worth entering and  experiencing. It all seems so potent and real that you can sit on a bench for hours and get submerged into a drifting, moving universe of her life and art.
