Raj Goyle for the People of New York

New York City is the kind of place where on a Sunday you are likely heading out to a Broadway play, a new restaurant or a book launch – and sometimes it’s for desi chai and bagels to root for a New Yorker who’s trying to change the equation in the public life in America!

In a world which is usually full of bad news, this is a happy tale of another super fighter working to change the system.
Raj Goyle, a lawyer and former legislator, who lives in Lower Manhattan with his wife, two teenaged daughters and both their grandmothers, is standing for NY State Comptroller, championing affordability and justice for all New Yorkers. A graduate of Duke University and Harvard Law School, he brings experience from his four years in the Kansas Legislature, where he built a surprising coalition that cut across party lines. He personally knocked on 10,000 doors and passed bills to support unemployed workers, reduce health care costs, improve public schools, and fight for immigration justice and clean energy, all in a deep-red state.

Now he is a candidate for the powerful post of NY State Comptroller, taking on the entrenched incumbent Tom DiNapoli.
So here we were on a Sunday in mid-Manhattan at an informal fundraiser for Goyle’s candidacy, co-hosted by Durga and Sree Sreenivasan, Reshma Patel, Raj Shah and Jyot Singh.

Raj Goyle has worked in philanthropy, supporting dozens of nonprofits while continuing to help Democrats win elections nationally and locally. He founded Phone Free New York, helping secure passage of the nation’s largest bell to bell ban on cell phones. He chairs the 5BORO Institute, now part of Citizens Union, where he continues to champion innovative public policy solutions. Raj is about creative solutions through law, politics, business, and civic leadership. He is about service, resilience, and the power of community.
