Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes – And Us

“Despite the amount of suffering, pain, misery, sorrow and travail which can exist in life, the reason for existence is the same reason as one has to play a game-interest, contest, activity and possession.”

    -L Ron Hubbard

With the impending divorce of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, I began to think a lot about Scientology.  Sources say that Scientology has played a part in their unhappily ever after.  It is reported that Katie wants primary residential custody and primary legal custody of Suri (the couple’s six year old daughter) due to differing parenting styles.  Katie is a Catholic girl and would like Suri to be raised Catholic; and Tom is a devout Scientologist and wants Suri to become a Scientologist like his other two children.

I have studied Hinduism, Sikhism, Christianity, Kabbalah and Scientology.  I think religion and culture gives us something to depend on and think about.  It gives us our belief system and lets us believe that we operate as part of a system.

Below I examine a principle of Scientology that really got me thinking.

    What is Scientology?

The study and handling of the spirit in relationship to itself, universes and other life.

One principle I found very useful and informative during my study of Scientology was the fact that life is a game.

By studying the elements of a game, we find ourselves in possession of the elements of life.

A game consists of freedom, barriers and purposes.  This makes total sense and it is purely scientific,  not based on observation.

When freedom and barriers are unbalanced, misery occurs.

Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes and the Game of Life…

Here  I will describe what I mean by barriers and freedom.

Barriers are limiting ideas, space, energy, masses and time.  Freedom in its entirety would be a total absence of all these things.

When a person has too many barriers, he starts to yearn for freedom.  When a person is totally free  he starts to feel purposeless and miserable.

Executive Competence therefore consists of imposing and enforcing an adequate balance between people’s freedom and the unit’s barriers and in being precise and consistent about those freedoms and barriers.

It has been discovered that a person begins to suffer from problems when he or she don’t have enough of them.   This leads us to believe that there is a high incidence of neurosis in rich families.  These people have very little to do and have very few problems.  The basic problems of food, clothes and shelter are already solved for them.

When a person works and has a great deal of leisure time, he is not enjoying any part of it.  He is constantly trying to avoid contact with people, object, energies and spaces.  The person becomes trapped in lethargy.  If the person could try to increase his work load, then he will become happier.

One who is plotting continually how to get out of things will become happier.  One who is plotting how to get into things has a much better chance of becoming happy.

Freedom, Barriers, Purposes and the Power of Choice are the guiding elements of life.

Hope you guys enjoyed this little mini lesson on Scientology!

    xoxo
