Manish Malhotra – Meeting with the Royals

Don’t you just love fashion shows? It’s a whimsical dream world where real problems are forgotten in a whoosh of youth and beauty and style. It’s a world inhabited by beautiful people and perhaps no one does it quite as dramatically as designer Manish Malhotra. It’s a world of rich Chantilly lace and velvet, of yards and yards of antique silk and the moon is made of gold.

Manish showed his fabulous 1930’s inspired collection at Delhi Couture Week, and he had some heavy hitters modeling his couture – SRK himself and Deepika Padukone. The royal canvas was nothing less than the princely states of India, a time of opulence, of unparalleled riches and a wondrous mix of east and west.  So much so that French shoe designer Christian Louboutin worked closely with Manish Malhotra in complementing the collection

    Manish Malhotra’s Fashion DNA

If you had attended, you would have seen Deepika Padukone walk the ramp in a rich blue lehenga accompanied by Shah Rukh Khan. Yes, I missed it too but I’m told that the front row included Sunanda Tharoor, Shashi Tharoor, JJ Valaya, Amaan & Ayaan, Rohit Shetty, and Sheetal Mafatlal.  If the ancient maharajas and maharanis were around, they would have been lining up for these goodies but never mind, the contemporary society royals were all there!

As Manish Malhotra said, “My collection gets its DNA from a simple vision of a Maharani dressed in a layered lehenga ensemble, embellished with antique gold, walking down a corridor with her entourage to meet the Viceroy in his regalia. Their conversations, conducted through a screen, echoed in my mind.”

Yes, today’s royals were all there and they gave the dream-maker a right royal applause. Enjoy the eye candy!
